turtles and ducks and squirrels...

Okay, it is just hot. I don't think it ever gets below 78 degrees here. I am sitting in the front room sweating, feeling a little too warm, wondering if everything goes well if we will get to go home quicker than originally planned. I don't want to tease those thoughts out, though, as I most likely will just set myself up for disappointment. After looking at Janine's blog, I can say that I have a couple of things that I don't like, either.

1. no tub. I don't care about a tub, normally, but when giving the boys a bath I have to fill a jug of water and transport it to the bin that we got a few days ago. It is not really difficult, but just annoying. Then, when emptying the bin, I have to cup the water into the toilet because the shower floor was not built at an angle to the drain...come on! Build it sensibly!

2. The water. I have yet to taste good water. We were warned to drink only bottled water here, even though our interpreter said that the water at the resort was good. We bought four LARGE jugs of water at the store in preparation for this. Every time I take a drink, though, I feel like I am drinking movie house popcorn butter. Seriously. It is gross. Every time.

3. I have not had one cup of coffee taste like the next yet. Every time is different. Even the meals, when we order one we like, will look different, have a different sauce, from one day to the next. Strange. But coffee? It is not difficult. Maybe tomorrow.

4. No hamburgers. The hamburgers here have actual ham on them. WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!? When I get home I am going to have a fat burger from B&D.

5. No U.S. sports on tv.

Anyhow, I am just complaining. I am a big baby.

Today was a busy day. We did go to the park, which was actually a botanical garden. It was incredibly beautiful. It was nice to walk, as the trees covered us up quite well most of the time. We were able to see turtles and ducks and some weird looking squirrels, but the sloths that we heard inhabited the place were nowhere to be seen. The kids loved the animals, though. Shirley fed the ducks and squirrels, and even held a turtle for quite some time. The boys liked seeing the animals, but didn't really want to get near them at all. It was a very peaceful time and nice to get away from the hotel...

...especially on the weekend, where we are flooded with local rich people. I know I mention this too much, but I cannot stand the people who come here. They are spoiled, they are brats, they think they own this had a dance. Fair enough, but does the music need to be heard in every room? The boys were napping, when all of a sudden I hear the beats of crappy club music trying to break the windows of our room. SHUT UP! Por Favor!

So while the boys were napping, Janine and Shirley took a walk to the store to get some supplies. It seemed that they had a good time, although it looked like they were tired of carrying stuff when they got back. It worked out nicely that they got some time together and were able to get some things for the hotel room. The boys had a little trouble sleeping, which is becoming normal, but they are two, so what do I expect? Tonight they really threw their little fits when it was bed time. Again, getting a schedule down is crucial, and yet extremely difficult in our time here. We continue to try, though.

We did spend a little time at the pool today, where it was the same as always: Juan on the sideline, Andres stuck to Mami or Papi like a leech, and Shirley jumping, diving, swimming, whatever she can do while she is there. It was pretty fun, but the boys seemed tired and were very fussy. I am glad that the staff here understands that we are going through a transformative time. They are very patient with us and are so good with the kids.

Anyhow, things are going well, probably better than we expected, but we miss home. We miss our routines and we are anxious to start our new routines. Hopefully things go well in the courts and we are able to go back to Bogota sooner than originally told, but again, I don't want to get my hopes up. Well, I should probably go to sleep...I definitely need it.

By the way...butt explosions and poopy diapers are not as big of a deal anymore...I am getting used to being a diaper changing Papi...
