nobody told me...

Today marks a week with the children. I am not sure if it seems like a week or much longer. Not longer in a bad way, but longer in a "this feels normal" kind of way. It is amazing to me how much they have warmed up to us in the week, and how much we have bonded with them. Of course it isn't perfect or without trouble, but I feel like it is moving well, that these children are perfect for us, in spite of how busy we are with them (especially two toddlers) and how frustrating it can be at times. It has been good, though, beyond good, really, and as Janine wrote, one minute we are frustrated, but the next we are laughing as the children goof or as they show off or as they just do something cute unaware of how they warm our hearts. Last night, after much fussing at bed time, I peeked my head in to check on the boys to see how they were doing. Well, I caught them "honking" each others nose in turn...cute, to say the least, but it was bed time, so I had to tell them. More fussing. Parenthood, I guess. Also, nobody told me that kids can have some stinky breath! Yesterday when bringing the boys up for their nap, Juan was freaking out and screaming/crying. Well, every time he turned his head toward my face I wanted to throw up. His breath was absolutely disgusting! But what could I do? I had to keep inhaling the fowl stench as I brought him up for his nap...ugh. Parenthood. That was worse than pee or poop, though.

We had fun last night, though, as we went for our nightly walk around the pool and when we came back to the room. The kids seem to always have fun doing our laps around the pool, looking at the large broken clock on the side, looking for la luna, and generally exploring the area. I think Shirley just loves being around the pool at any time and in any form. It was amazingly empty there last night after a packed weekend. Hopefully it will be settled down again this week, as it is much more fun with the kids and much easier when there aren't ten thousand people around. Anyhow, we brought the boys back and gave them baths (which is getting easier, as we get more practice, by the way) and let them run around for a little bit. Shirley and I got to color a little bit before it was her turn to shower. Afterward she played with her barbies for a little bit (she loves to dress them up) instead of watching a video. She then asked if she could watch a video, but Janine explained that she chose to play with her barbies instead, so no video. She did well with that and went to bed without complaint or attitude. So in spite of the tantrums yesterday, the trouble eating at dinner, and the stinky breath, we ended on a good note last night...the kids have a distinct way of leaving us with smiles when all is said and done. Every day I am thankful for our children, the time we spend with them, the fun we have with them. I know the other stuff is just stuff that comes with parenthood, stuff that many people before us have experienced, stuff people are now experiencing, and stuff that people after us will also experience. I guess I just have more of an understanding now. And I know this: I love our children.

Hopefully today we will be able to get to the store. We need to get a few items, including shoes for the boys, and hopefully some sandals for me. Emmanuelle is going to be here around 10, but we are not sure what she has planned. Whatever it is, we will ask if we can get to a bank and get to a store before we return to the hotel. It is always nice to get out of here, though, as the premesis can get boring at times. Maybe we will go the playground today, let the kids run around and get some energy out. We'll see.

So the Super Bowl is over. Good. No more football. It will allow more time for college basketball on tv.

Today our papers will be presented in court. Hopefully it gets a good start and moves quickly. Our stay here has been good, but if the papers move quickly, we will move quickly. I am not sure how the kids will react when it is time to go, when we fly to Bogota, when we have a change of scenery. It will be interesting to change our environment even that little bit. Maybe it will give us an idea of what it will be like when we fly to Atlanta and then onto SLC. I am curious.

Frog Brutha, Jr.: Did you figure out your ink yet?

7-Up: Thanks for recording the office...was it a good one? I didn't get a hockey invite this week, either...what's up with that?

The song for the day is "the Man" by Pete Yorn.
